Cache Mosquito Abatement District

Fogging is a short-term solution that will only kill adult mosquitoes that are in the area at the time of application.

Because it only kills adult mosquitoes, and since mosquitoes can travel up to 20 miles (depending on wind), the problem mosquitoes could reappear relatively quickly.

Night-fogging is what most people see and hear, and it is what most are familiar with when they think of ‘mosquito abatement’.

Fogging (Adulticide)

Important Information

1. The foggers that CMAD uses apply the pesticide at very low dosage rates (at 4.0 to 4.5 ounces per minute, the average droplet size dispersed by our foggers is 9 to 12 microns in diameter).

2. Since the dosage rate is so low, the fog machine must go no faster than 20 mph in order to be effective.

3. Very few animals, humans or insects besides mosquitoes are affected. People with chronic asthma or something similar should read the information on health concerns. The pesticides used in fogging affect bees. This is the reason for the short time frame in which we fog.

4. Unfortunately, the fog machine is rather noisy.

5. Because the pesticide will hurt bees, we try to stay away from the known beehives.  We encourage anyone who raises bees to contact us so we can know where not to spray.  Also, in the summer months when the day gets late and the temperature cools the bees go to bed.  We try to start around 8-9pm to be sure that the bees have settled into their hives.  Since the fog machine is loud we will try to be done fogging by 1am. This will still upset some people, and we would like to hear from anyone who has a complaint. Please call 764-6839.
